Reporting to the Director of Financial Operations, and collaborating closely with the Associate VP for Budget, Procurement and Financial Systems, and the CFO, the Sr. Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst will focus on developing and maintaining a multi-year budget model incorporating key mission metrics to support strategic initiatives and the appropriate allocation of resources. The multi-year budget model will assist Seton Hall University in achieving strategic objectives, including research initiatives, academic and student support and expanding academic learning opportunities.

The Senior FP&A Analyst will play a pivotal role in developing a comprehensive business financial budgeting model that adheres to established principles, techniques, and higher education standards. The incumbent will support budget planning, system integration, and the enhancement of campus-wide efficiencies. Key responsibilities include assisting with cost allocation modeling (RCM) within the complex landscape of higher education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial and Budget Modeling
• Develop and maintain complex financial models in accordance with higher education standards, collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather data and assumptions for model inputs
• Incorporate historical data, market trends, and economic forecasts to create accurate and reliable models that are consistent with the University’s strategic plan.
• Develop sensitivity analyses to assess the impact of different variables on business scenarios and financial outcomes
• Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies within the data to perform statistical analysis to support decision-making
• Continually review and update budget model based on actual outcome and changes within higher education
• Participate in higher education professional affiliations to stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and networking opportunities
• Utilize budget modeling to assist in the development of a comprehensive annual budget process reviewing major financial changes as compared to the model
• Build and maintain a budget model that aligns with the university’s mission and long-range strategic plan. Continually update the model as outcomes are finalized to mitigate future risks
• Monitor and evaluate financial performance metrics to drive business growth and efficiency
Operating Budgets:
• Assist in the review of university development of the annual budget process including variance analysis, forecasting, and preparing various financial reports
• Collaborate closely with departments across the organization to drive financial efficiency and effectiveness
• Manage capital project budgets and provide frequent reports and spend analysis to senior management, including the review of statements of work, purchase orders, and the validation of operating and capital expense components
• Analyze and develop annual budgets for restricted (non-grant) programs based on fund requirements
• Actively participate in the capital strategic planning process with university stakeholders by providing accurate financial information and analysis to aid in decision-making

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, with a major in finance, accounting and/or economics.

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in budget and financial analysis and long-term strategic planning, preferably in a higher education environment.

Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and statistical forecasting with expertise in using financial analysis software and tools, particularly advanced Excel knowledge

Experience in working with data management systems and/or demonstrated knowledge of systems to ensure proper integration of requirements into the database(s) to effectively produce reports

Exceptional analytical skills and strong attention to detail with the ability to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies within data to support decision-making

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to anticipate financial costs and resources needed for support.

Desired Qualifications:

MBA or working towards a Masters Program in a finance related curriculum a plus

Strong understanding of financial accounting principles (GAAP) and not-for-profit accounting practices

Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Knowledge in using COGNOS, ODS, and/or other similar applications a plus
