The Department of Communication, Media, & the Arts, a component of Seton Hall University’s College of Human Development, Culture, and Media, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track contract position. We seek an experienced practitioner of Museum Studies. The incumbent will teach in the department’s MA program in Museum Professions, with the additional possibility of teaching in undergraduate courses, such as Art History.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position is renewable annually for up to three years, at which time the incumbent will be eligible to apply for a renewable position as a full-time Lecturer.
Competitive candidates should have experience teaching face-to-face courses in one or more of the following areas: Museum Education; Museum Registration; Collections Management; Introduction to Museum Studies; and/or Museum Management. We are very interested in candidates who can help develop curriculum and design new graduate courses. The successful candidate will also contribute to thesis/master’s project mentorship.
The new faculty member will advise students and be an active service member in the College and University. They will support and contribute to the College’s culture of diversity, equity and inclusivity and participate in an interdisciplinary community dedicated to creative collaboration.
This position entails a 24-credit teaching requirement during the Fall and Spring semesters (that is, four courses per semester), commensurate with Department needs, and is expected to begin in August 2025.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in the Museums Profession graduate program; advising students; and contributing to program development and coordination. Faculty are also expected to be active members of the College and the broader University community. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to:
• Participate in visionary program building, including a keen focus on diversity, equity and inclusion;
• Maintain ties to the professional organizations, such as the College Art Association or the American Alliance of Museums, etc.);
• Embrace and emphasize the use of technology in the classroom and working environments;
• Participate actively in academic advisement, high-impact student learning activities, student mentoring, museum site visits with students, and/or other co- and extracurricular engagement activities;
• Commit to innovative recruitment and retention initiatives of both students and adjunct instructors;
• Create new courses on topics related to the candidate’s area of expertise; and
• Commit to collaboration in growing a new, interdisciplinary college, as well as building connections with stakeholder communities, such as the campus archives and gallery, the undergraduate Art History program, and the 3+1 BA/MA program.

Required Qualifications:
• M.A. (or Ph.D.) in a Museum Studies-related field (degree completion is required by August 2025); and
• One or more year(s) of successful college teaching experience.
