Director Clinical Skills for the School of Medicine

The Director of Clinical Skills will oversee the development, implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of the School of Medicine’s clinical skills curriculum, in close collaboration with the SOM leadership.  This includes integrated three-year competency based clinical skills training and assessment, including assessment of the Core Entrustable Professional Activities for undergraduate medical education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

July 2017 - July 2018:

  • Leadership of clinical skills curriculum design team for the new SOM. 
  • Development of learning objectives, teaching methods, assessment tools
  • Development and implementation of faculty development program for classroom, simulation, and clinical-setting based faculty
  • Integration with all other elements of the SOM curriculum
  • Development of orientation and advising systems and programs as related to clinical skills
  • Administrative and service responsibilities including service on SOM and University committees
  • Recruiting of teaching faculty at clinical sites within Hackensack Meridian Health
  • Liaison and training of clinical faculty members in pedagogies utilized by the SOM (including Team-Based Learning, Problem-Based Learning, active learning strategies)
  • Participation in accreditation activities related to anticipated Fall 2017 site visit by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
  • Promotion and development of interprofessional curricula aligned with the Mission & Vision of the SOM
  • Develop medical education research and scholarship agenda
  • Development and leadership of clerkship curriculum design, working with SOM leadership

July 2018-:

  • Continued leadership of course development and transition into course directorship role
  • Continued administrative and service roles within SOM
  • Active teaching of the SOM curriculum
  • Continued development of clinical faculty members
  • Implementation of interprofessional curricula
  • Conduct medical education research and scholarship based on establish agenda

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (MD, DO) with specialization in relevant field
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching in an undergraduate medical education (UME) and/or other medical education settings
  • Excellent communication, administration, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated scholarship (e.g., presentations, publications, patents, extramural grant-funding, etc.) in a relevant professional field, preferably medical education research
  • Documented ability to mentor and motivate students and peers
  • Ability to practice clinical medicine in the state of New Jersey

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced training in medical education
  • Demonstrated ability in leading the development and implementation of clinical skills curricula in the UME or other medical education setting
  • Experience in LCME accreditation activities and development of new medical schools

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Ability to practice clinical medicine in the state of New Jersey

Physical Demands:

  • General Office Environment
