JOB SUMMARY: Provide summer residential tutoring to Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program pre-freshmen in the disciplines outlined below.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Provide academic tutorial assistance to M.E.D.I.C.A.L Summer Academy Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program (PMPDPP) pre-freshmen students, review course assignments and relevant course materials presented in class and provide members of the PMPDPP staff with appropriate feedback on the progress of participating students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must be a current EOF student at Seton Hall University
· Must reside on-campus in summer PMPDPP-provided housing
· Completed at least 30 credits at Seton Hall University
· Solely employed by PMPDPP for the full summer program period (dates to be provided)
· Be in good standing with the EOF Programs and Seton Hall University
· Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

· Express willingness to promote and encourage high academic achievement of students.

· Excellence in provision of tutorial assistance for the below course content, good communication and problem-solving skills, and high level of responsibility.

Math: Excellence in course content: the real number system, functions, polynomial functions and equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions (graphs, applications, identities and equations), analytic geometry; and proficient understanding in the use of Mathematica software and completion of Mathematica assignments.

Chem: Mastery of course content, inclusive of measurements in chemistry; matter changes and energy; elements, compounds and their composition; the periodic table and nomenclature; modern atomic theory and bonding; the mole, chemical reactions and stoichiometry; gas laws; the states of matter; and aqueous solutions; proficiency in chemistry problem solving demonstration. Ability to assist students in analysis of experiments completed in lab and lab report writing; and proficiency in reporting logical and concise information in an effective manner.

Biology: Conceptualizing material in an analytical manner, presentation preparation, lab report construction, and study strategies. The topics covered include a survey of microorganisms, plants, and animals, inclusive of a lab component as follows: classification of organisms, bacteria and viruses, introduction to the microscope and cheek cell staining, protists, plants, invertebrates and vertebrates, and the cardiovascular system.
