The Center for Social Justice (CSJ) has an opening for an Assistant Clinical Professor to teach the Health Law Clinic as part of the Housing Justice Project. The CSJ is home to Seton Hall Law School’s vibrant clinical program including the Civil Litigation and Practice Clinic; Criminal Defense and Community Advocacy Clinic; Equal Justice Clinic; Family Law Clinic; Housing Justice and Legal Design Clinic; Immigrants’ Rights/International Human Rights Clinic; Impact Litigation Clinic; and Health Justice Clinic. The CSJ also houses the Pro Bono Service Program, the Housing Justice Project, and the Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The CSJ has an opening for a full-time Assistant Clinical Professor to direct the Health Justice Clinic and collaborate with fellow faculty and attorneys in the Housing Justice Project. This position is for a one-year term with the potential for renewal subject to funding availability. Seton Hall Law School leads a State of New Jersey initiative aimed at providing legal representation to low- and moderate-income tenants, as well as individuals facing eviction or other housing insecurity. The Assistant Clinical Professor will teach the two-hour weekly seminar for the Health Justice Clinic and supervise up to eight (8) students per semester, overseeing a diverse range of cases that intersect housing and health justice. These cases will focus on landlord/tenant litigation and may also include Social Security disability cases and benefits work as they relate to housing justice. In addition, the students work on policy projects and community education. The Assistant Clinical Professor will be responsible for the Health Justice Clinic docket year-round and will work with legal interns during the summer.

Required Qualifications:

1. J.D. degree
2. Minimum five years of practice experience as an attorney in health law, housing, disability rights, government benefits, and/or poverty law
3. Strong academic record
4. Excellent writing and oral communication skills
5. Commitment to public interest law

Desired Qualifications:

Preference for bar admission in New Jersey
Law school teaching experience a plus

Licenses and Certificates:

Admission to the New Jersey Bar, or at least one other state bar with ability to immediately seek waiver to practice in New Jersey, and in good standing

FA01 - Faculty
