The School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) at Seton Hall University invites applications for a twelve-month faculty position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology beginning March 1, 2024. The incumbent will serve as one of two Directors of Clinical Education in the Master of Speech-Language Pathology program at Seton Hall University.
The School of Health and Medical Sciences at Seton Hall University has a significant national presence in health sciences education. The School has assumed a leadership role in offering high-quality, innovative programs at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels with a longstanding commitment to interprofessional education (IPE). The School of Health and Medical Sciences offers opportunities for collaborative research, teaching, and grantsmanship across several disciplines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Director of Clinical Education responsibilities
• coordinating clinical externship experiences for graduate students, maintaining current affiliation agreements with external sites/partners, and initiating new agreements
• creating new clinical training curricula/programming
• management of clinical faculty including onboarding, training, management, etc.
• developing and maintaining relationships with clinical sites and supervisors
• advising graduate students
• designing and facilitating student interventions including on-site visit for student observation in the clinical setting
• tracking student and program outcomes using various data management systems
• ensuring department adheres to standards and requirements for students to obtain ASHA certification and relevant licensures as well as department adherence to CAA accreditation standards
• collaborating with the other Director of Clinical Education in ensuring all the duties of the role are achieved

Faculty responsibilities
• teaching graduate courses focusing on the development of critical thinking and evidence-based practice, in therapeutic interventions, or clinical diagnosis and management of diverse populations across the spectrum of care
• participating in research activities
• participating on committees at the department, school, university, and professional levels

Required Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must hold, or be eligible for, NJ State SLP licensure, be eligible for student supervision per ASHA CFCC guidelines, have at least 5 years clinical experience and 3 years in clinical teaching or clinical coordination.
• Applicants must have outstanding communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, academic and clinical faculty. Successful applicants must possess current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills, be able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and have Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession.

Desired Qualifications:

• Evidence of advanced clinical practice including activities such as organizational program development and implementation or advanced clinical certification and training
• Record of scholarship, academic teaching experience, professional service, and effectiveness, and continued engagement in interprofessional practice.
