The Rodino Center at Seton Hall Law School invites applications for the position of Head of Acquisitions and Collection Development. The Rodino Center team of librarians and experienced staff provide the highest level of reference assistance, research instruction, and library support to meet the information needs of the Seton Hall Law community.

The Head of Acquisitions and Collection Development leads all aspects of library acquisitions and collection development and management, including strategic planning, budget, and policies. The position works closely with the Executive Director of the Rodino Center and directly manages one staff member.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This role manages the library’s acquisition budget in coordination with the Executive Director; works with the Technology and Research Services Librarian to provide relevant data analysis for the library’s collections; makes informed and collaborative collection decisions, including selection and deselection of print and electronic materials.


In addition, the position requires that the incumbent:

Effectively manages and mentors their direct report.

Coordinates acquisitions of print and electronic resources.

Oversees processing of new materials and ensures invoices are paid in a timely manner.

Serves as renewal and invoicing contact for multiple vendors.

Manages the acquisitions budget in coordination with the Executive Director and produces financial reports to track monies allocated, encumbered, and expended.

Maintains a collection that anticipates the needs of the law school community.

Creates and updates collection and acquisitions policies and workflows.

Provides training to colleagues as needed on ILS platform and processes as needed.

Maintains an awareness of the trends and issues affecting acquisitions and collection management and development.

Establishes and fosters relationships with law school and library colleagues through engagement in committee work and activities of law school, University, and professional organizations.

Participates in library staff development activities and engages in special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Masters in Library Science (MLS) or Masters in Library Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent.

Experience in a law library (academic or firm).

Budget and billing experience.

Project management experience.

2 or more years of library acquisitions and/or collection development experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of Folio or other open source ILS.

Supervisory and management experience.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) or foreign equivalent.

Salary Grade:

FA01 - Faculty

Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt

Physical Demands: General Office Environment
