Responsibilities:

  • ACQUISITIONS:
    Assist Acquisitions staff as they process orders for library materials.
    Check SetonCat for duplication, open shipments and verify invoices.

    ARCHIVES: PROCESSING
    Assist Archives staff in organization of and care for historical records and collections, including historical papers and photographs, rare books, and other special collections materials. Data entry, book shelving and organizing, creation of basic inventory lists, scanning documents or photographs, organizing documents and other materials, some other office duties as needed.

    ARCHIVES: REFERENCE DESK
    Assist researchers and patrons in the Archives, in person and on the phone, by answering questions, assisting with materials for research, and locating records. Assist patrons in filling out forms, monitor use of materials on site, answer phones, assist researchers with microfilm machines, handle small amounts of cash.

    CATALOGING:
    Assist as books are logged into and discarded from the library system. Stamp, beep and label cataloged books. Delete and discard unwanted books. Search and retrieve books from stacks. Small book repairs. Help with various ongoing projects.

    CIRCULATION:
    Assist circulation staff and library patrons at the circulation desk in obtaining library resources and in the use of library materials and equipment. See duties below.

    DEAN'S OFFICE:
    Work with the Assistant to the Dean and Secretary to the Deans office. Provide administrative support with strong work ethic: communicating with patrons and librarians/staff, data entry, ordering supplies, tracking expenses, occasional deliveries around campus, creating documents in Word and Excel, help organize the office. Enter time off in librarian and staff calendar. Reserve rooms in the library for meetings and events. Help patrons find out about available scholar study rooms.

    INTERLIBRARY LOAN:
    Assist with work of the department that arranges loans to and from libraries at other universities. See duties below.

    PERIODICALS:
    Help Periodicals staff as they check in periodicals and in sorting and distribution of mail.
    Check in periodicals and update journals lists. File and type. Search SetonCat.

    STACKS:
    Assist with the work of the department that manages collection space. See duties below.

    WALSH GALLERY:
    Work at various administrative and installation-related duties in this busy gallery environment. Filing, typing, mailings, clerical, assists with supplies, data entry, and answering phones. Assist with exhibition planning and installation. Assist Gallery Director with daily tasks including data entry, greeting visitors to gallery, mailings, answering phones and other administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • REQUIRED FOR ALL JOBS IN LIBRARY
    Strong attention to detail, consistent work ethic and reliability. Able to take direction and understand verbal and written instructions. Punctual and communicative with good attendance and the clear understanding that work study jobs are paid work. Pleasant phone manner and legible hand-writing.

    ACCESS SERVICES/STACKS:
    Visual concentration while sorting books by their call numbers, shelving and shelf-reading.

    ACQUISITIONS:
    Ability to adapt to different duties; reliability highly desirable.

    ARCHIVES: PROCESSING
    Sensitivity to irreplaceable nature of rare materials, books and otherwise. Willing to learn how to function in such an environment and to be physically careful with the surroundings. Ability to work independently on repetitive tasks, ability to read and follow instructions. Students occasionally lift boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.

    ARCHIVES: REFERENCE DESK
    Friendly customer service phone and personal skills, ability to work independently on repetitive tasks, familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.

    PERIODICALS:
    Flexibility in adapting to different assigned tasks. Reliability is very important.

    WALSH GALLERY
    Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Photoshop a plus. Highly organized and able to take direction.

If you either don't know your award, or don't have such funding, please do not apply for this job. During summer months, students can work up to 29 hours per week. During the year, the limit is 20 hours per week.
