JOB SUMMARY

The Skilled Student Equipment Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting departmental operations by overseeing the use, maintenance, and training associated with shared research equipment. This position ensures that faculty, students, and staff are properly trained, equipment is functioning optimally, and usage is documented for administrative oversight. The coordinator will also contribute to departmental research and operational tasks as needed.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Train new faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff on the proper use of shared departmental equipment, including but not limited to:

• Water purification systems

• Autoclaves

• Gene/protein expression instruments

 • Flow cytometry analyzers

• Gel imaging systems

• Other central equipment as assigned

• Develop and maintain a centralized training database to track user certifications, training dates, and equipment access status.

• Conduct weekly inspections of all shared equipment to ensure proper working order.

• Coordinate service requests and preventative maintenance as needed.

• Monitor and report any misuse or improper handling of departmental equipment.

• Assist with tasks related to I equipment setup, calibration, and departmental research projects as assigned.

 

FEDERAL WORK STUDY REQUIREMENT

NO -- Federal Work Study eligibility not required

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.

• Demonstrated proficiency in operating and troubleshooting the listed equipment.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in documentation and scheduling.

• Ability to communicate technical procedures clearly and professionally to diverse users.

• Experience with database creation and maintenance preferred.

• Reliability, initiative, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and integrity.
