Under direction of and with Assistant Dean of Career Services, develop and implement plan to expand school’s employment footprint nationally. Specifically, responsible for outreach in certain national markets, including New York and East Coast, Washington D.C, California and other West Coast markets. Travel as necessary to meet with potential employers including big law and corporate employers within those markets. Work with the office to maintain and improve the employment placement rate by researching job opportunities, marketing, and providing effective career counseling to students on a national level. Assist the Office of Career Services in other efforts to serve the employment needs of current Juris Doctor students and alumni, including maintaining a heavy counseling schedule, reviewing and editing student materials, assisting in the coordination and implementation of the Spring and Fall On-Campus-Interviewing and Resume Referral Programs, and managing and preparing students for the Big Law Pre-Cruitment process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Counsel Juris Doctor candidates and alumni. Maintain a heavy counseling schedule to advise current Juris Doctor candidates and alumni on career paths, course selection, use of resources, job search and interviewing strategy, employment options, interviewing, and professionalism, in addition to providing general advice on varied topics that are specifically applicable to the student or alumnus. Counsel students on career options, including big law, corporate, public interest, and compliance sectors nationwide. Provides counseling to 300+ students and alumni yearly.

Develop and implement plan to expand and grow employment opportunities in and beyond the New York/New Jersey metro area. Research and identify potential new job placements across the country, contact potential employers to develop a relationship, provide all necessary information and market the school to those employers, and advertise placements to students. Manage Big Law Pre-Cruitment process for firms nationwide and prepare students to apply and procure jobs in Big Law. Assist office with Fall and Spring Recruitment, including its Resume Referral and On-Campus Recruitment Programs.

Review and edit student materials, including resumes, cover letters, writing samples, thank you letters, and other correspondence, communicate edits to the student, suggest students re-submit for continuing edits to ensure quality of written materials.

Events - Attend alumni and bar association events to network and foster a productive relationship between potential employers and Seton Hall University School of Law. Attend and organize events and panel discussions focused on student networking and employment. Assess student needs; prepare materials, including handouts and Powerpoint presentations; and present to students during information sessions regarding the Office's three recruitment sessions.

Assist with Office communications, including the monthly electronic newsletter featuring interviews with students regarding their employment opportunities. Act as a liaison for technology platforms used by office, including Symplicity, Virtual Speech, and Firm Prospects

Required Qualifications:

Juris Doctor degree required; Experience in the legal profession and experience in law school higher education, preferably in a law school career services office

Salary Range:

80,000 - 110,000
