This position provides essential customer service and staffing at the Walsh Library circulation desk and critical operations support within the Access Services unit during weekend hours, performing routine library functions (check out; check in; catalog search; account review, etc.) and clerical duties related to the circulation, retrieval, and organization of library materials using various computer systems. Assists in processing interlibrary loan and resource sharing requests for SHU Library patrons and partner libraries borrowing materials from SHU. Provides guidance and direction to library student workers. Monitors and reports building and maintenance issues. This position is designated as an essential employee and will be expected to staff the library during inclement weather conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work at the Walsh Library circulation desk on weekends managing general library operations and procedures. Perform routine library functions (check out, check in, account review, etc.) and clerical duties related to the circulation, retrieval, and organization of physical library materials using the FOLIO integrated library system and other software. Provide basic customer service and directional assistance to library users. Communicate and enforce library policy and procedures. Monitor and report any building, maintenance, or security issues. Process interlibrary loan and resource sharing requests using the Rapido and ReShare interlibrary loan systems for both SHU Library patrons and libraries borrowing materials from SHU, including but not limited to printing retrieval slips, processing outgoing requests, shipping physical items, and supplying electronic articles using interlibrary loan systems, courier website, and MS Excel. Perform library catalog and database searching to determine item access. Supervise and guide student assistants working at the circulation desk and in the physical book stacks. Perform opening and closing routines for the library. Answer phone and email inquiries; collect library fines and fees via Pirate Gold or check.
Required Qualifications:
-Associate's degree, any field
-Working knowledge of basic library operations, Library of Congress call number arrangement, and/or integrated library systems
-Excellent customer service and phone skills
-Microsoft Office suite skills
-Ability to use standard library equipment and troubleshoot and report issues
-Accuracy in data input, and clarity in reporting
-Very clear and professional service communication directly with library users, student workers, and SHU employees, including Public Safety. Tactfully handle complaints and any maintenance or behavioral issues
-Must have highly reliable attendance record that must be maintained
-Ability to perform Essential contractual responsibilities

Salary Range:
$23.424 per hour
