JOB SUMMARY

Walsh Library seeks student employees to assist in the Access Services department for the Summer 2025. Primary duties would involve assisting at the circulation desk, performing various tasks in the physical library book stacks, and helping with various interlibrary loan duties. Shifts during the Summer 2025 semester would be primarily scheduled between 9am-5pm Monday-Saturday.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides attentive and courteous customer service and general assistance at the circulation desk utilizing web-based circulation and reservation systems. Check out and check in library materials; answer basic questions; retrieve library materials from stacks; perform basic searches in the library catalog. Re-shelve library materials; perform shelf-reading and stack checks to verify library items are shelved in proper location; occasionally assist with book shifting. Assist with interlibrary loan processing: update requests; pack materials for shipment; scan book chapters; and open and sort incoming mail. Performs basic data entry for some tasks. Assist with other Access Services and Dean's Office projects as needed.

 

FEDERAL WORK STUDY REQUIREMENT

NO -- Federal Work Study eligibility not required

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong attention to detail, consistent work ethic, and reliability. Ability to learn Library of Congress Call number system to properly retrieve, re-shelve, and assess arrangement of library books. Experience with data entry. Ability to take direction and understand verbal and written instructions. Punctual, responsible, and communicative with good attendance [and clear understanding that work study jobs are paid work]. Ability to work independently on repetitive tasks. Ability to read and follow instructions. Friendly customer service phone and personal skills.

Must be registered at least half-time for Fall 2025

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word. Basic knowledge of library services and resources.

 

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Pushing book carts, standing, occasional exposure to dusty shelves, occasionally lifting of up to 50 lbs.
