The College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenure-track position in literacy education, in the Department of Educational Studies. We seek candidates to join a teaching and research community focused on the preparation of K-6 teachers. The successful applicant will be committed to preparing teacher candidates in the use of evidence based instructional practices and culturally responsive pedagogy, to support diverse learners across a range of educational settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The development and teaching of graduate and undergraduate level courses in literacy education.
• Teaching a 9-credit semester load in literacy and education related courses.
• Maintain a research agenda
• Participate in university, college, and department committee work.
• Advise undergraduate students in the elementary education programs.

Required Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an accredited institution completed by August 2025.
• Specialization in literacy education with a particular emphasis in elementary education and literacy acquisition.
• A record of, or potential for, scholarly accomplishments.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in literacy instruction in K-6 elementary settings.
• Experience teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses with demonstrated effectiveness (preferably in education related content).
• A foundation in research on reading and writing development and instruction, as well as an understanding of policy debates regarding literacy and the effects on real-world practices.
• Evidence of instructional practices, including culturally responsive approaches to literacy, to support acquisition, development, and comprehension for multilingual learners, struggling readers, and students with disabilities.
• Experience or interest in interdisciplinary conversations, research, and academic innovation across the campus.
