Seton Hall University seeks an experienced Business Analyst to support the IT Planning and Communications Office in driving the successful delivery of IT projects by bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. The Business Analyst will work closely with cross-functional teams from academic and administrative areas, IT professionals, and external partners to assess needs, gather detailed requirements, and explore potential technology solutions—both existing and new—that align with the University’s strategic goals and standards. They will assist with conducting market research, evaluating vendors, documenting requirements, and facilitating communication between stakeholders to ensure clear understanding and alignment.
During the implementation phase, the Business Analyst will work closely with the unit, project manager, and IT team to ensure smooth integration, support change management efforts, design training programs, and address any challenges that arise. Post-implementation, this role will gather user feedback, analyze and categorize insights, and create actionable recommendations to optimize technical solutions, helping to drive continuous improvement of the University’s IT project management process and alignment with University's strategic priorities and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Requirements Gathering and Analysis - Collaborate with business stakeholders to elicit, document, and analyze business requirements for IT projects. Ensure that requirements are complete, clear, and aligned with business objectives.
2. SharePoint Support and Digital Engagement - Work with the campus community to enhance collaboration and communication using SharePoint. Configure sites, develop workflows, and implement custom features to address specific needs and improve user engagement. Provide ongoing support and training to help users effectively utilize SharePoint, ensuring seamless integration and adoption of digital tools for everyday tasks. Assist in troubleshooting, updates, and optimizing SharePoint environments to continuously meet the evolving needs of campus partners.
3. Process Analysis and Solution Design - Evaluate current business processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Develop recommendations for process enhancements that will drive efficiency and effectiveness. Work closely with IT teams to translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications. Ensure that proposed solutions align with business needs and IT capabilities.
4. Stakeholder Communication and Documentation - Act as a liaison between business users and IT teams, facilitating effective communication and ensuring that stakeholders are informed of project progress, risks, and issues. Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including requirements documents, process flows, use cases, and test plans.
5. Change Management Process Oversight - Manage the change management process in Jira by overseeing the creation, tracking, and approval of CHG tickets. Ensure change requests are properly documented, coordinate approvals, and facilitate Change Advisory Board (CAB) reviews.
6. Project Support - Assist project managers in the planning, execution, and monitoring of IT projects. Provide ongoing support to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
1-3 Years of Experience
Expertise in gathering and analyzing business requirements.
Ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and evaluate potential technology solutions. Address ambiguous or varied challenges, ensuring that solutions are data-driven and meet stakeholder needs.
Ability to independently manage tasks, track progress, and ensure project deliverables are met.
Familiarity with project management methodologies and the ability to support the implementation and continuous improvement of IT projects are critical.
Produce clear and concise documentation, including business requirements, solution proposals, and technical specifications. Translate complex technical information to ensure that all stakeholders understand the objectives, progress, and outcomes of IT initiatives.
Adept at explaining technical concepts in a way that is understandable to non-technical audiences, facilitating requirements gathering, and guiding decision-making processes to align IT solutions with business needs.
Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency in modern project management tools, such as JIRA, is desirable, along with strong skills in SharePoint configuration, workflow development, and system integration.
A strong understanding of higher education environments, including academic and administrative processes.
