DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
ACCESS SERVICES
Assist as books are logged into and discarded from the library system. Utilize online library systems to complete tasks. Search and retrieve books from stacks. Small book repairs. Ability to learn Library of Congress Call number system to properly retrieve library books. Assist with work of the department that arranges loans to and from libraries at other universities, including packaging materials for shipment. Open and sort incoming mail. Assist with the work of the department that manages collection space. Assist with various ongoing projects.
ACQUISITIONS:
Assist Acquisitions staff as they process orders for library materials.
Check SHU catalog for duplication, open shipments and verify invoices.
ARCHIVES: PROCESSING
Assist Archives staff in organization of and care for historical records and collections, including historical papers and photographs, rare books, and other special collections materials. Data entry, book shelving and organizing, creation of basic inventory lists, scanning documents or photographs, organizing documents and other materials, some other office duties as needed.
ARCHIVES: REFERENCE DESK
Assist researchers and patrons in the Archives, in person and on the phone, by answering questions, assisting with materials for research, and locating records. Assist patrons in filling out forms, monitor use of materials on site, answer phones, assist researchers with microfilm machines.
CIRCULATION:
Assist circulation staff and library patrons at the circulation desk in obtaining library resources and in the use of library materials and equipment. Provide attentive customer service, answer basic questions, retrieve and re-shelve library books.
DEAN'S OFFICE:
Work with the Assistant to the Dean and Secretary to the Deans office. Provide administrative support with strong work ethic: communicating with patrons and librarians/staff, data entry, occasional deliveries around campus, create documents and signage, help organize the office, answer general inquiries. Responsible for daily walk-through of building to document and report facility and housekeeping issues. Responsible for maintaining bulletin board postings.
WALSH GALLERY:
Work at various administrative and installation-related duties in this busy gallery environment. Filing, typing, mailings, clerical, assists with supplies, data entry, and answering phones. Assist with exhibition planning and installation. Assist Gallery Director with daily tasks including data entry, greeting visitors to gallery, mailings, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong attention to detail, consistent work ethic and reliability. Ability to learn library systems. Experience with data entry. Able to take direction and understand verbal and written instructions. Punctual and communicative with good attendance and the clear understanding that work study jobs are paid work. Ability to work independently on repetitive tasks, ability to read and follow instructions. Friendly customer service phone and personal skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Photoshop.
