JOB SUMMARY:

The Math Learning Lab is seeking qualified and motivated individuals to join our academic support team as Undergraduate Learning Assistant for CSAS Introduction to Program Design I & II. The successful candidates will play a key role in enhancing student success by supporting the students in the class and leading structured group study sessions. As an Undergraduate Learning Assistant, you will collaborate with faculty, provide academic support, and create a positive and engaging learning environment.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attendance to every class for either CSAS 1114 or CSAS 1115 as assigned
  • Answering student questions during class
  • Solving computer technical issues that arise in class
  • Developing and presenting a selection of programs throughout the semester
  • Evaluating student programs
  • Preparing study guides as a student for students
  • Two weekly office hours with the Professor
  • Approximately 8 hours of tutoring/recitation hours.
  • Assist in supervision and training of the Computer Science tutors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student.
  • Proficiency in Mathematics and Computer Science, with at least a B+ in CSAS 1114, CSAS 1115
  • GPA in Math and Computer Science of 3.0.
  • Experience as a programmer using the Racket-based student language and the Program-by-Design methodology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Previous tutoring experience is a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for supporting student success and fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Recommendation from Dr. Morazan or Dr. Hemann is required.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Racket-based student language, Java, Python, and Program-by-Design methodology.
  • Previous tutoring experience preferred.
