The Associate Director of Communications for Seton Hall Law School leads the planning, development, and execution of strategic communications and media efforts that enhance the Law School’s reputation, visibility, and enrollment objectives. A key member of both the University Relations team and the Law School’s leadership group, the Director develops and disseminates written and multimedia content, manages media relations, and supports advancement and student recruitment initiatives. This role requires a strong front-line writer who can create compelling narratives and collaborate closely with Law School admissions, graduate program marketing staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Develop, write, and disseminate high-quality content — including press releases, web stories, newsletters, blog posts, op-eds, talking points, and multimedia materials — to promote the achievements of faculty, students, and alumni and advance the Law School’s mission. 60% of time
2) Lead and execute a comprehensive communications strategy to strengthen Seton Hall Law School’s brand and visibility through digital, print, and media channels, aligned with institutional goals with University Relations. 15% of time
3) Serve as the Law School’s primary media relations lead, proactively building relationships with reporters, pitching story ideas, managing inquiries, and coordinating sensitive or crisis communications with University Relations. 10% of time
4) Coordinate closely with Law School admissions (JD) and graduate program marketing staff to ensure messaging and content support student recruitment, maintaining consistency across owned, earned, and paid media. 5% of time
Collaborate with internal stakeholders (including faculty, deans, and advancement staff) to identify storytelling opportunities, support fundraising communications, and align messaging with institutional priorities. 5% of time
5) Track and report on communications performance, analyzing data to assess the impact of campaigns, media coverage, and digital engagement. 5% of time
Required Qualifications:
BA in Communications,Marketing, PR plus minimum 5 years of experience.
(Significant experience (5-8 years) in PR/communications; notably for Law-based institutions may substitute for degree)
Desired Qualifications:
MBA or MS in Marketing preferred
Salary Range:
72,000 - 99,000
Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt
