The Gallery mission is to enhance the intellectual life of Seton Hall University and the greater community through dynamic, interdisciplinary exhibitions of exemplary artistic and cultural value. Essentially a place of learning, the Walsh Gallery promotes Seton Hall’s Catholic mission by fostering the development of students into servant leaders through diverse programming in a collaborative environment. Primary responsibilities are to expand the reach of the Gallery, promote campus and community engagement, work as part of a Special Collections and Gallery team, implement all phases of exhibition planning and programming to support the curriculum by enhancing the cultural and intellectual climate of the college and neighboring communities and oversee Gallery operations, exhibitions, education, programing and outreach efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Exhibitions, Marketing, Audience Development, and Educational Programming

• Publicize, promote and/or attract exhibitions and related programs across campus to students, faculty and staff as well as the surrounding communities
• Collaborate with faculty, students, and community partners as appropriate to conduct or coordinate educational programs for the campus and the surrounding communities: organize programs related to exhibitions or other relevant events on campus; prepare interpretations for exhibitions e.g. web pages, labels, handouts, brochures, catalogs as appropriate; conduct exhibition tours
• Plan, curate, and organize 4-6 regularly scheduled exhibitions per year: feasibility research for themes, candidates, and objects; proposal solicitation as appropriate; preparation of budgets; guide artist or guest curators; coordinate loans: shipping, insurance, security, documentation, etc.
• Responsible for installation/deinstallation of exhibitions and artworks and provide guidance for Gallery help for these processes; train and supervise students to support Gallery functions; as appropriate, act as consultant for exhibitions in alternative campus and community partnership spaces

Department Participation

• Assists the department with the permanent collections including the maintenance of policies, procedures and records for current holdings and future acquisitions, enhancing the permanent collection database and maintaining professional collection management methods and storage
• Contribute to collective work as part of a Special Collections and Gallery Team; attend regularly scheduled department meetings and participate in department committees

Finances

• With the Assistant Dean, identify potential funding sources and apply for internal and external grants; support other fundraising vehicles to supplement the Gallery's funding

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
• 3-5 years of experience working in a museum or gallery setting
• Demonstrated experience in planning, installing, promoting and marketing exhibitions, working collegially and collaboratively in those processes
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student, employee and community populations, demonstrating a high level of professionalism in interactions with all constituents
• Demonstrated working knowledge of historic and contemporary art
• Evidence of successful fiscal management and/or grant procurement
• Commitment to supporting the Mission of the University and servant leadership.

Desired Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a related field
• Museum or gallery management or supervisory experience
• Experience in higher education
