JOB SUMMARY

Students apply through a full-time faculty member to work on genuine scientific research in one of the following Departments: Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, or Psychology. Majors in these departments are welcome to apply on the Seton Hall Employment website.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Students perform genuine laboratory, technical, or theoretical research at the direction of the faculty member on original research projects.
  • Students join faculty in conferences, publications, and other dissemination of the findings resulting from the project.
  • Work is typically expected to be completed in person on campus in the laboratory or other academic space, as assigned by the faculty member.
  • Students and their mentors are required to communicate with the Dean's Office to produce news stories on each project and present their work at the Petersheim academic research conference and at a STEM Connect event in the fall.

Duties vary by discipline and project but can include

  • designing and setting up and/or running experiments;
  • recording data and/or producing data sets and visualizations;
  • performing literature reviews and research;
  • programming and our running/monitoring programs, scripts, or other computational research;
  • collaborative discussion of scientific, mathematical, or other research questions and problems;
  • writing and revising findings and hypotheses.

Projects vary by discipline and faculty leader but include

  • studies in brain injury and other neuroscience,
  • antibacterial and antifungal substances,
  • semiconductors,
  • cold plasma,
  • bone injury/recovery at the cellular level,
  • chemical mitigation and materials science,
  • network theory,
  • cyberbullying prevention

Major in Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, or Psychology
