Under the supervision of the Director for the Clinical Simulation and Education Center, the Simulation Operations Coordinator will serve an essential role in the simulation education program that supports the educational mission of numerous clinical degree programs in collaboration with several staff members in the School of Health and Medical Sciences and the College of Nursing. This position will provide administrative support to optimize workflow procedures, meet student learning needs, support faculty and programs, and assist in sustaining the Clinical Simulation & Practice Center. The incumbent will participate, alongside other staff, in technological resource management and coordination of annual inspections. This position will also support the administrative activities for research-related simulation programming that are initiated by the academic departments that may include activities that are funded through research grants. The research-related activities may take place in the evenings or on weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage the daily/weekly/monthly schedule for the simulation areas, standardized patients, and skills labs. Including creation/maintaining schedules, proactively managing schedule changes or conflicts between SHU and HMH-SOM and handling all inquiries. Provide weekly reports regarding lab activity and efficiency and update/maintain center policies and procedures. Facilitate bi-annual scheduling meetings and manage conflict resolutions with SHU and HMH-SOM leadership members. (20% of time)
2. Serve as the point of contact for internal and external clients, trainers, and vendors of the Clinical Simulation programs. Arrange meetings and appointments as necessary. Liaise with simulation staff, standard patients, and IT department to facilitate workflow and improvements as needed. Serve as a resource for students and other personnel using the Clinical Simulation and Education Center. (15% of time)
3. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders of the Clinical Simulation and Skills Center anticipating needs and proactively identifying areas for improvement. Facilitates readiness for simulation activities across schools and programs, adhering to the Best Practices of Simulation. Prepare materials for simulation experiences and complete after-action evaluations. (20% of time)
4. Assists Directors of Clinical Simulation with administrative tasks related to simulation development, preparation, invoicing, reports, purchasing supplies, monitoring budgets, and other tasks as needed. Serve as the capacity of the SIM Director in their absence. (25% of time)
5. Participate in the assessment of projects for their effectiveness that leads to program improvement strategies. Guidance and feedback are shared with Simulation staff and Director through both unstructured conversations and structured debriefing following events. (10 % of time)
6. Assist with the recruitment, selection and training of individuals who will serve as standardized patients. Assist and engage in faculty training and sim staff development sessions. (5 % of time)
7. Provide support for future students, alumni engagement, tours, and other SHU events. These events may be held on weekends or evenings. (5% of time)
Desired Skills
1. Specialized knowledge or training: Familiar with healthcare simulation technologies and programming. Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology. Knowledge of the healthcare documentation systems. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design and implementation.
2. Analytical: Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions. Strong analytical and problem solving skills with creativitiy and flexibility in designing innnovative approaches to solving problems. Ability to prioritize projects to meet the needs of the program.

4. Computer/technical: Ability to quickly learn new technology. Proficiency with a variety simulation equipment, hardware and software. Working knowledge of computer functionality, telecommunications, audio and video equipment.
5. Clerical/secretarial: Proficiency in MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and database use. Working knowledge of computer functionality, telecommunications, audio and video equipment. Ability to quickly learn new technology.
6. Equipment operation: Experience with or willingness to learn Laerdal, METI, Gaumard, SimuLab and other simulation systems and equipment.
7. Written communications: Strong written communication skills. Able to communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, faculty, vendors, and students within the College of Nursing and other University departments.
8. Oral communications: Strong verbal communication skills. Able to verbally communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, faculty, vendors, and students within the College of Nursing and other University departments.
9. Other: Excellent interpersonal and human relationship skills. Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Demonstrate the ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high-level of confidentiality especially as it pertains to HIPAA and FERPA.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Professional office setting with a heavy workload in an academic and simulation environment. Occasional pressures associated with short lead times, conflicting priorities, and the complex nature of the simulation center and functions of academic centers. Physical conditions involve extensive sitting, giving of tours on short notice, use of a computer, and ability to manipulate equipment (high and low fidelity simulation). Flexibility in schedule required. Must be available for some early mornings, occasional evenings and weekend work.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelors degree required in health profession, education, simulation or related area of study
2. CPR certification
3. Ability to work under pressure and high impact environments
4. Excellent communication, team member, leadership experience.

1. Masters Degree in related field
2. Certification from Society for Simulation in Healthcare
3. Previous healthcare simulation experience.
4. Technical certifications
5. Previous experience as a healthcare clinician or employment in a healthcare setting.
