Seton Hall University School of Law welcomes applications for a Clinical Teaching Fellowship with the Criminal Defense and Community Advocacy Clinic to begin during the 2026-27 academic year. The New Jersey State Bar Foundation (NJSBF) Clinical Teaching Fellowship is designed to launch the teaching careers of practitioners with at least 3-5 years of practice experience, but applicants with less experience will be reviewed. The fellow will teach and supervise law students alongside an experienced clinician. The fellow also will be mentored in pursuit of a career in clinical legal education. The Seton Hall Law School Center for Social Justice seeks to hire a teaching fellow, starting on or about October 2026 with flexibility to start at a later date.  The fellow will be hired for 1 year, with the possibility of continuation for an additional year depending on funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The NJSBF Clinical Teaching Fellow will assist Professor Isis Misdary, Director of the Criminal Defense and Community Advocacy Clinic, with the full-year clinic. The NJSBF Clinical Teaching Fellow will teach seminar classes and lead skills-based trainings. The fellow will also be expected to manage a docket of cases, movement lawyering projects, and advocacy reports during semester breaks, the winter intercession, and the summer.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum requirements include a J.D. degree, and membership in good standing of the Bar of any state, with the opportunity to apply for admission to New Jersey; minimum 2 years of legal practice experience in criminal defense with a preference for 3 years or more; and the potential for teaching excellence.  Applicants must have a strong academic record, written and oral advocacy skills, excellent time management, organizational skills, priority setting, and interpersonal skills, flexibility, and demonstrates ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.  The ideal candidate will be committed to a legal empowerment and community-directed practice model. 

Licenses and Certificates:

J.D. degree and membership in good standing of the Bar of any state, with the opportunity to apply for admission to New Jersey.

Salary Range:

$72,000- $99,000

Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt

Physical Demands: General Office Environment
