Seton Hall University is seeking an experienced Benefits Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Compensation and Benefits, this position is responsible for the administration and daily operations of the group benefit programs. Acts as the liaison with benefit brokers and benefit carriers. Interprets complex benefit plan designs. Provides analytical and technical support regarding the benefit budgets and delivery of the benefit programs. Supports university wellness initiatives and voluntary benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Acts as the liaison between the university and various vendors/carriers. Interprets complex benefit plan designs. Runs reports, creates census data for use with benefit carriers. Resolves employee issues through interaction with vendors, employees, HR and other university departments as necessary. Provides timely responses to questions and issues from employees regarding benefits.
• Enrolls and terminates employees in benefit plans.
• Assists with annual open enrollment process and ACA reporting.
• Supports university wellness initiatives and voluntary benefit offerings.
• Generates reports relative to employment status, plan enrollment and payroll contributions to evaluate and authorize benefit premium invoices. Reviews and reconciles benefit bills and make necessary corrections. Prepares invoices for payment.
• Oversees COBRA administration, including COBRA payments and reconciliation.
• Manage disability and family leaves in accordance with state, federal and university regulations. Maintains HRIS data for employee contributions and dependent eligibility.
• Participate in the development and review of employee benefit communication materials and summary plan descriptions. Ensure benefit documents are up-to-date.
• Review and update benefit website.
• Participates in market surveys and collects survey data from appropriate sources.
• Stay abreast of compliance matters and government regulations.
Required Qualifications:
• Associates degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite, and possess excellent Excel skills.
• Must be able to interpret various benefit plans and provide information to employees.
• Must have excellent time management and be able to prioritize work.
• Must have prior office experience
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Minimum of 1 – 3 years benefit plan administration experience required
• The person in this position is required to perform his or her duties at all Seton Hall University locations and facilities, as assigned.
