The School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) at Seton Hall University invites applications for a twelve-month, open rank faculty position (i.e., Lecturer, Clinical Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor) in the Department of Athletic Training beginning January 1, 2025. The incumbent will serve as the Director of Clinical Education in the Master of Science in Athletic Training program at Seton Hall University.
The School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) at Seton Hall University has a significant national presence in health sciences education. The School has assumed a leadership role in offering high-quality, innovative programs at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels with a longstanding commitment to interprofessional education (IPE). The School of Health and Medical Sciences offers opportunities for collaborative research, teaching, and grantsmanship across several disciplines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsibilities include: Participation in clinical education, didactic teaching, scholarship, administration, and service. These may include advising and mentoring students in the clinical environment, administrative tasks related to fieldwork placements, simulated education, participating in discipline and position-specific scholarship, and engaging in department, school and university committees as assigned.
• Director of Clinical Education responsibilities
• reporting to the Program Director/Department Chair regularly on all clinical matters and coordinating quality improvement of the clinical component of the program
• designing and implementing preceptor training, for both new and established preceptors
• coordinating clinical externship experiences, maintaining current affiliation agreements with external sites/partners, and initiating new agreements
• making regular and periodic contacts (in-person and virtual) with each clinical site where students are placed to discuss student performance
• maintaining a current information file on each clinical site where students are placed to ensure compliance with standards for site placement
• identifying and developing new sites for clinical education to meet existing and emerging athletic training practice needs
• reviewing the quality and appropriateness of clinical sites to ensure that placements are high impact and appropriate to meet their educational requirements
• counseling and arbitrating on matters of student and clinical preceptor concerns
• designing and facilitating student interventions including on-site visit for student observation in the clinical setting and remediation (potentially using simulation), as needed
• tracking student and program outcomes using various data management systems
• coordinating responsibilities with other department faculty involved in the clinical education portion of the Athletic Training program
• participating in annual new student orientation for the AT Department to provided an introduction to the clinical education component of the AT Program
• collaborating with the Director of Clinical Education from other SHMS clinical programs to optimize fieldwork operations
• Faculty responsibilities
• teaching clinically-oriented coursework that focus on the development of skills
• Participating in research in one’s area of expertise
• participating on committees at the department, school, university, and professional levels

Required Qualifications:
Qualifications for the position include:
• A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training
• Contemporary clinical expertise in athletic training
• Certification in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification
• Active athletic trainer license (or eligibility to apply) with the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners
• At least 3 years of clinical experience as a certified athletic trainer
• Prior history of teaching at the graduate level
Desired Qualifications:
• An earned doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DAT) in fields related to the athletic training profession
• Prior teaching history in a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program
• Previous work as a Director of Clinical Education Record in a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program or a working history as a preceptor who supervised graduate-level athletic training students at clinical sites
Licenses and Certificates:
• Certification in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification
• Active athletic trainer license (or eligibility to apply) with the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners
