The Senior Accountant position is responsible for accounting for leases and the University’s debt service. The position assists the Director of General Accounting with the University’s Form 990 tax filing as well as in other areas of general accounting, including the fixed asset system, plant funds, cash accounting, and the interface of the student system to the general ledger. The position researches tax and other accounting issues and proposes solutions for the impact of new accounting pronouncements on the University.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for University's lease accounting. Position responsible for all lease schedules and evaluates and determines appropriate accounting for all leases. Position prepares appropriate leases disclosures required for audit report. Position will identify possible leasing arrangements throughout the University and obtain lease agreements through communication with other University departments.
• Responsible for the University's debt accounting. Position responsible for all debt schedules and debt disclosures required in the University audit report. The position will calculate and record all monthly debt service accruals and bond discount and issuance cost amortization. Also responsible for preparing schedules of all debt service principal, interest, administrative expenses, and mandatory transfers. This position will also assist in interest expense forecasting.
• Assist in the University's tax filings, including Forms 990 and 990T. Works with the Controller's Office to complete the annual Form 990 filing using tax software and perform tax research as requested. Will assist with the annual State unclaimed property filings. Assist in possible University audits with tax authorities.
• Assist in the supervision of accounting for the University's property, plant and equipment, including its capital and plant funds. Maintain integrity of capital project funds to approved budgets, tracking bond drawdowns, if applicable, and other funding. Assist with CIP entries and depreciation schedules. Assist in yearend note disclosures related to property, plant, and equipment.
• Assists with the annual financial audit and the preparation of the annual audit report. Also performs financial accounting research from time to time for the Controller's Office, and will be involved with new accounting standards implementation in the coming years. Performs year-end closing analyses and adjustments related to accounting issues and other as assigned. Assist in other special projects as may be assigned by the Controller's Office.
• Assists or prepares various external reports, including the NCAA Agreed Upon Procedures report and other reports requested by regulatory agencies or outside organizations.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting
3-5 years of related experience

Desired Qualifications:

Master's degree in Accounting or Finance
Either has CPA or is in the process of taking the CPA exam.

AD180 - Administrative

Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt
