JOB SUMMARY:

The Seton Hall University's Pre- Professional Advising Center (P-PAC) is hiring Peer Advisors! We are in search of responsible students interested in developing their own leadership skills and that are passionate about supporting their peers prepare for professional school. P-PAC Peer Advisors are to assist students with basic advising questions, P-PAC programming, administrative tasks, provide excellent customer service, and serve as a resource to enhance student access to pre-professional advising and other campus resources.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Peer Advisors play a crucial role in the Pre- Professional Advising Center by performing a wide variety of tasks that support the office’s mission. These responsibilities include:

 

•           Serve as a resource for students exploring and preparing for professional school (Med/Dent/Opt/Vet, etc.)

•           Meet with students 1:1 and/or in a group setting to provide peer advising/support and answer any frequently asked advising questions

•           Assist with facilitating workshops and programming

•           Assist with student outreach and follow up (emails, social media, and other communications)

•           Provide exceptional customer service while acting as the first point of contact for the Pre- Professional Advising Center for students, faculty, and other community members.

•           Assist with administrative and clerical tasks at the Pre-Professional Advising Center such as scheduling appointments, answering phones and responding to emails in a prompt, polite, courteous, and timely manner. Other duties as assigned.

•           Assist with any P-PAC projects related to pre-professional advising, workshops, social media communication, marketing, creating flyers, data entry, or other tasks related to the goals of the office.

•           Attend mandatory trainings and team meeting

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

●          Minimum 3.0 GPA required and maintained

●          Undergraduate Sophomore, Junior or Senior in good academic standing preparing for/interested in professional school (30 + credits)

●          Can multitask and has strong organizational skills

●          Clear campus disciplinary record

●          Ability to work with confidential information

●          Ability to work with peers who come from varying backgrounds

●          Effective communication and interpersonal skills

 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

●          Passion for assisting peers reach their academic and career goals

●          Willingness to learn new skills, policies, processes and professional school information

●          Willingness to apply new skills during peer advising sessions and relationship building

●          Friendly and approachable

●          Ability to understand and communicate appropriate boundaries with peers

●          Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and flexibility

●          Enjoys working as part of a team, but is equally comfortable working independently

●          Ability to empathize and understand that there are a variety of factors that affect academic success

●          Ability to present to large and small groups

●          Competent in Microsoft Office Apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

●          Responsible, a critical thinker, courteous, punctual, reliable, consistent and professional
