The Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts at Seton Hall University invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer position, to start in August 2024. We are seeking a dynamic lecturer who is interested in contributing to the reconceptualization of the Art History program in the newly inaugurated College of Human Development, Culture, and Media. Candidates should have Open Field Art History qualifications suited to teaching and revising introductory courses and electives. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in teaching Design History to support students in adjacent concentrations of Art, Design, and Interactive Media. In alignment with the College’s emphasis on transdisciplinary inquiry, preference will be given to candidates whose innovative pedagogy enables students across the University to benefit from connections between Art History and their respective fields of study. Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential responsibilities include teaching a 24-credit load during each academic year (typically, four courses per semester), and highly engaged service to the Department and College. Teaching assignments will draw upon the candidate’s disciplinary background. The successful candidate will design new courses to innovate the undergraduate curriculum and engage in visionary program building. Courses for the current position are primarily taught within an on-campus format. There may be exceptions to these course formats with some courses taught in an online or hybrid format.
Although there are no research expectations for this position, Lecturers are expected to work on projects and participate in committees that serve the workings of the Department and College. The Lecturer appointment requires service to program advancement, recruitment, accreditation, and structure, in collaboration with the Program Director, Department Chair, and Department colleagues. The successful candidate will also collaborate closely within the Department and College as part of an array of high-impact activities, such as collaborative research with students, student advisement, participation in faculty training, and the like. The opportunity for additional teaching assignments during the Winter and/or Summer terms may be available, contingent upon student enrollment and available funding. Required Qualifications:
* M.A. with ABD in Art History required, Ph.D. in hand desirable.
* Ability to teach undergraduate introductory and elective courses in Art History.
Desired Qualifications:
* Experience in teaching Design History.
* Commitment to collaborative pedagogy and interdisciplinary teaching.
* Evidence of ability to maintain a scholarly profile commensurate with the profile of a Lecturer position as outlined above.
