Performs routine maintenance & repairs and new electrical installations. The majority of the work will be with circuits and equipment less than 600 volts. The supervisor of the position is the Leadperson for the electricians.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Replaces faulty switches, sockets, lighting fixtures, contacts, relays, and other elements of an electrical system. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using testing instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, testing lamp, and high voltage test stick. Relamps lighting fixtures.

Repairs, installs, and replaces circuit breakers, panels, disconnects, conduits, wiring, and related equipment and appliances using hand tools and testing equipment. Tests electrical circuits for voltage, amperage, and continuity. Inspects and tests lighting and power circuits. Troubleshoots and repairs all types of electrical equipment and systems.

Performs all work with adherence to National Electrical Code and safety procedures. Inspects completed work and ensures that work conforms with requirements of National Electric Code, local building, and safety codes. Holds an electrical contractor's license for New Jersey.

Receives work requests and assignments through the leadperson from an automated work order system and then documents the hours and materials expended on each job.

Requisitions new electrical supplies and equipment and picks up supplies from the warehouse.

Keeps leadperson and building managers informed of all major jobs, any delays on major tasks, and any shutdown of electrical power.

Communicates effectively (both orally and in writing) with occupants and administrators.

Lifts material and tools daily that weigh more then 20 pounds. Works off ladders, scaffolds, and manlifts.

Sweeps, vacuums, and cleans up work area after completion of job. Maintains tools so they are clean, operable, and properly stored. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years of work experience as an electrician or duties comparable to a journeyman.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience working with high voltage (5 KV and 26 KV) equipment would be beneficial since the campus operates a 26 KV substation and distributes power around campus at 5 KV.

Installation and testing of tele/data and CATV wiring. This includes CAT VI cables, RG6, and telephone wiring.

Experience working in man-lifts and maintenance of outdoor lighting.

Licenses and Certificates:

Has knowledge of National Electric Code and local ordinances as they pertain to electrical permits and installations.
Must possess an electrical contractor's license to work in New Jersey.
Must possess valid NJ driver's license.
