The primary purpose of the Security Dispatcher is to protect life and property.
The SHU Ride Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating transportation services for the Seton Hall University community. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, with an emphasis on technology proficiency. The dispatcher will use various software applications, tablets (iPads), and computer systems to schedule, monitor, and support SHU Ride operations. Candidates must be comfortable with troubleshooting devices, applications, and network connectivity in real time to ensure seamless service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Receive, prioritize, and dispatch SHU Ride requests through designated software and communication platforms.
• Monitor ride activity in real time using GPS-enabled applications and iPads.
• Provide technical support to drivers and riders for mobile apps, tablets, and related technology.
• Troubleshoot common issues with SHU Ride applications, devices, and connectivity.
• Maintain accurate records of requests, rides, incidents, and system issues.
• Communicate effectively with Public Safety supervisors and drivers to ensure safe, timely service.
• Assist in training staff on use of SHU Ride apps, tablets, and dispatch systems.
• Support operational updates, system upgrades, and process improvements related to SHU Ride technology.
2. Monitor/Coordinate/Control: Responsible for monitoring and controlling the fire and intrusion systems. Interprets the signals as they are received and coordinates the necessary responses. Monitors the following: fire, intrusion, trouble and supervisory alarms, keys, various departmental alarms and panic alarms, emergency phones, access control systems, 911 calls and all service calls.
3. Reports emergency situations and potential safety issues to appropriate University personnel and outside vendors for a timely response.
4. Responsible for issuing and recording equipment, maintains reports and forms.
5. Supervision: In the absence of a Security Manager, the dispatcher assumes the responsibilities of shift supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED and one to three years of relevant work experience required. Relevant work experience may include experience in Public Safety, Military, Police and Criminal Justice coursework.
Desired Qualifications:
Community policing course, CPR, AED, First Aid certification, basic computer skills, have knowledge of alarm systems, the ability to write a clear and concise report, be able to clearly communicate directions, instructions as well as work well under pressure.

Valid New Jersey driver's license required.
