This position serves as a member of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the recruitment and admission of new undergraduate students to Seton Hall University. The Admissions Counselor reports to the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions and develops and implements University recruitment programs and related initiatives designed to attract the best possible pool of candidates. He/she will design and coordinate admission outreach services and establish a wide range of advisement and liaison services. The Counselor oversees and coordinates the front-line customer service activities of the Admissions staff, to include the provision of in-person and telephone information services to prospective and current students and other members of the public.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, implements and evaluates programs, special projects, events and other initiatives geared to recruiting students within targeted populations and facilitating admission into Seton Hall. Assists the Associate Director and Director with planning on-campus recruitment events including Open House, Pirate Preview, Scholarship Reception, and other events throughout a recruitment cycle.
  • Conducts and assesses interviews of prospective students for admission. Provides feedback from interviews that will aid in the selection process for potential admission to the University.
  • Presents daily information sessions to a range of visitors (accepted students, prospective students, transfer students, guidance counselors, parents, group tours, etc.). Provides general information about the University, academics, application process, financial aid and scholarships. Answers various questions that will assist the audience in learning more about Seton Hall and the Admissions process.
  • Oversees and coordinates the front-line customer service activities of Admissions staff to include the provision of in-person and telephone information services to prospective and current students and other members of the public.
  • Participates in the establishment and implementation of student recruitment strategies, resources, policies and procedures for the University.
  • On occasion, independently represents and promotes Seton Hall at national, regional, state and local recruitment events. Assists with travel conflicts or vacant territories, specifically college fairs and high school visits. This may involve evening and weekend commitments. It also requires a valid driver's license.
  • Conducts counseling sessions with prospective students, parents, schools or college personnel and other interested individuals or groups.
  • Maintains a high-level of student-centered service with students and their families throughout the enrollment process.
  • Provides a full range of advisory and liaison services to prospective students and associated community constituencies regarding Seton Hall admissions and related issues.
  • As assigned, reviews individual applications and evaluates candidates for admission eligibility; troubleshoots applications with problems and oversees and/or coordinates communications with applicants. Helps with overflow in application file review and calling accepted students as needed.
  • Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
  • Supports the Associate Director in supervising the student tour guides. Assists with interviews, selection process, scheduling, training, disciplinary issues and overall functionality of students in the office.
  • Performs all other general duties as assigned to support the Admissions operation such as processing, recruitment, events, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; approximately 12 months previous Admissions work experience. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to analyze and interpret the needs of customers and offer appropriate solutions. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information effectively to groups.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and the Internet.
  • Experience with customer service and student service.
  • Flexible schedule /availability for some evening and weekend hours.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in student database software preferred

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
