JOB SUMMARY
|
The RISE TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program is seeking motivated, academically strong student leaders to serve as Peer Tutors for the 2026-2027 academic year. Peer Tutors play a vital role in supporting the academic success of our diverse student population through one-on-one and small-group tutoring. In addition to content-area tutoring, tutors will actively contribute to our program's scholarly community by facilitating workshops on scholarly development and financial literacy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
|
* Academic Tutoring: Provide high-quality individual and small-group tutoring to students in foundational biology courses (including General Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, or Anatomy & Physiology).
* Workshop Facilitation: Prepare and present at least one (1) Scholarly Development program and one (1) Financial Literacy program to RISE students during the semester.
* Resource Sharing: Guide students on effective study strategies, active recall techniques, time management, and biology exam preparation.
* Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate and timely records of tutoring sessions and student progress.
* Professional Development: Attend all mandatory tutor training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development workshops.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
|
* Academic Standing: Must have earned a minimum grade of A- in the specific Biology course(s) you wish to tutor (e.g., General Biology I & II).
* GPA Requirement: Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.
* Financial Aid: Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study (FWS).
* Enrollment: Must be a currently enrolled student at Seton Hall University.
* Please note: While this position is funded through the RISE TRiO SSS program, you do not need to be a RISE student to apply.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
|
* Strong understanding of foundational biological concepts and lab procedures.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
* Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping peers achieve their academic goals in STEM.
* Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or leadership roles is preferred.
