Graduate Clinical Placement Coordinator

This 3-year term, HRSA grant-funded position manages the daily operation for graduate clinical placements. The Graduate Placement Coordinator will devote 100% of their time to organizing and facilitating clinical placements for graduate students enrolled in the Pediatric, Adult-Gerontology, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Programs who are participating on the mobile health units in the City of Newark. In collaboration with the College of Nursing Director of Graduate Admissions and Compliance, the College of Nursing Clinical Placement Coordinator, the Graduate Program Directors and the HRSA grant Project and Data Manager, the Graduate Clinical Placement Coordinator executes qualitative decision-making in the assignment of graduate students’ clinical placements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) 50% of the time:
• Acquire the appropriate clinical placement assignments to prepare NP students to work with
the medically underserved populations, providing additional opportunities to learn about
Social
Determinants of Health and care for underserved populations.
• Network in-person with local clinical agencies, nursing organizations, and student
organizations to showcase experiential learning opportunities on the mobile health units.
• Work in collaboration with the College of Nursing Clinical Placement Coordinator to execute
clinical affiliation agreements.

2) 20% of the time:

• Disseminate experiential learning opportunity information about the mobile health unit to NP
students in their first year of study.
• Distribute student applications for experiential learning opportunity (mid-semester of previous
semester before experiential learning opportunity).
• Review student selection criteria to determine eligibility to participate in the experiential
learning opportunity.
• Evaluate student applications and select 19 students per semester.
• Communicate student selection to students, faculty and program directors of Adult-
Gerontology, Pediatric, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program Directors.

3) 20% of the time:
• Collaborate with the Project and Data Manager to provide the initial blueprint for student
schedules on the mobile health units for review by the Principal Investigator.
• Assist with the management of the day-to-day orchestration of the student’s placement on
the mobile health unit with communication as needed with the Project and Data Manager,
preceptors, and City of Newark Department of Health and Community Wellness
administrators and CON Program Directors.
• Assist with organizing student schedules in collaboration with the Project and Data
Manager.
• In collaboration with the Project and Data Manager act as liaison among students, the City
of Newark personnel, and the College of Nursing faculty.

4) 10% of the time:
• Formulate experiential opportunity on mobile health units program
information for submission to the College of Nursing’s biannual True Blue
Newsletter and press releases to the university’s public relations for
publication in Inside the Hall, the university’s electronic weekly newsletter.
• Organize and present annual presentation to the University’s Resilience,
Integrity, Scholarship, and Excellence (RISE) program which supports
underrepresented students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
• Establish contacts with professional organizations to showcase the unique
experiential learning opportunity on the mobile health units.
• Cultivate additional clinical placement opportunities to address the
underserved.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree – Field of study: Nursing
* 1-3 years of work-related experience
* RN licensure in New Jersey, valid driver’s license
* Training as a registered nurse
* Ability to discern appropriate clinical placement for population-based nurse practitioner
programs
* Ability to collaborate with others
* Knowledge/skill of Microsoft software
* Skills for corresponding with students, project team,s and health care agencies
* Computer, Copier
* Effective communication skills, formulating reports, letters
* Effective oral skills
* Work hours are Monday to Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.: Evening and Weekend hours
are necessary.
* Work locations are South Orange Campus and Interprofessional Health Science Campus,
Nutley
* Travel to healthcare agencies in New Jersey
