The Faculty Services Librarian provides legal reference and research services to Seton Hall Law faculty, including the development of new faculty services related to the creation of scholarship, support for legal clinics and programs, and oversight of a new library RA program. The Faculty Services Librarian is an active member of the reference and instruction team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide legal reference and research services to Seton Hall Law faculty, including the development of new faculty services and means of keeping faculty abreast of relevant research databases, tools, and changes to legal research platforms
  • Provide legal reference and research support to law library patrons, including students, alumni, and members of the local bar
  • Develop and oversee a new library RA program to support faculty scholarship
  • Develop materials for and participate in formal and informal library educational sessions, including workshops and classes
  • Create and update online research guides, tutorials, and other informational content
  • Participate in collection development decisions, with an emphasis on resources to support faculty scholarship
  • Provide legal research training and support for journals, legal clinics, and centers
  • Participate in professional organizations and engage in service and scholarly activities at the local, regional, and/or national level to maintain professional growth
  • Participate in law school events and committees and collaborate with colleagues in other departments on programs and policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution
  • JD from an ABA-accredited institution (or equivalent law degree)
  • Substantial knowledge of the legal research process in print and electronic formats and ability to perform legal reference/research on a wide variety of topics
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to teach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to successfully collaborate with faculty, students, and colleagues
  • Comfort and aptitude with technology, including the ability to mentor and train others in same
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage complex workload

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of prior experience as a professional law librarian, including research and instruction responsibilities
  • Demonstrated supervisory abilities and experience
