Seton Hall’s Upward Bound Program is a unique educational experience that combines, Federal and private funding to offer a variety of academic, social and cultural activities, as well as personal and career counseling for first-generation, low-income high school students in Newark, East Orange, and Irvington, New Jersey. The goal of the Upward Bound Program is to assist and prepare high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds to aspire for post-secondary education and beyond.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class times to provide a balanced program of instruction
  • Provide individual, small, and/or large group instruction, whenever appropriate, in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and special abilities.
  • Instructs students in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive learning environment.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of Tutors for supplemental instructions
  • Communicates with the program’s administration, instructors and advocates on individual student progress
  • Maintains attendance for all students
  • Recording grades and submit Student Assessment at the end of the semester

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience teaching Mathematics to high school students
  • New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Federal TRIO Programs a Plus.
  • Experience teaching in urban school district.

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Possession of a current and valid teaching certificate in the appropriate subject/content area issued by the New Jersey Department of Education.

Salary Grade:

  • UG - Administrative

Exempt/Nonexempt:

  • Non-exempt

Physical Demands:

  • General Office Environment
