The Assistant Director, supports career education, experiential education, mentor programs and recruiting/networking events to support the lifelong career goals of undergraduate students in designated areas. Facilitates and presents career education workshops,which includes but is not limited to resume writing, interviewing, portfolio development, networking and navigating the job market. Serves on The Career Center Arts & Sciences team. Provides career coaching to assist students. Provides coaching to recent alumni who are seeking assistance with career planning. Oversees and coordinates a career fair and/or networking event during the academic year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for career education/preparation of a specific student cluster, which includes providing career counseling and work preparation coaching. Facilitates the self-exploration process to guide students through the career development process. May assist with interpretation of career assessments for students when needed. Facilitates students' preparation for experiential education programs and post-graduate pursuits (professional employment and graduate school). Conducts targeted outreach to graduating students. Provides career counseling/coaching to alumni who return for career transition assistance.
  • Conducts outreach, including site visits, to a variety of employer organizations to develop partnerships, cultivates internship and professional opportunities for students and alumni. Conducts development with the alumni community to identify mentors for Pirate Mentor program and industry experts to present at, or participate in, various career programs or networking events.
  • Develops career preparation curricula and career education information materials/emails and leads a variety of workshops, including resume writing, interviewing, networking tips, using social media and graduate school preparation
  • Conducts outreach to faculty to keep them and their students apprised of Career Center programs/activities. Makes classroom presentations. Collaborates with faculty on various committees. Assists in fielding faculty questions about internships or other career-related questions.
  • Plans and coordinates networking events, and panel presentations. Develops promotional materials and distributes via print and electronic media to University- community.
  • Supports internal career teams and participates in University-wide committees. Conducts administrative tasks and prepares professional correspondence. Supports the on-going maintenance of a web-based career management system, and additional web based career preparation systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree – Field of study: Higher Education Administration; Counseling, related area
  • Prior experience in a university/college setting, (preferably in Student Affairs) or experience in human resources.
  • Understanding of the career management life-cycle and how it impacts career decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess a high degree of flexibility, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
