The Visual and Sound Media Program within the new College of Communication and the Arts at Seton Hall University invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant professor of media studies with a specialization in sports media to begin August 2018.
Visual and Sound Media has approximately 130 majors and 15 minors. The major blends the critical study and the creative practice of media. Students specialize in at least one of four areas: media studies, television production, film production, or sound production. Our proximity to New York City offers students the ability to complete numerous internships in order to be prepared for the job market. Firmly rooted in the liberal arts, the major focuses on the history, theory, and aesthetics of film, television, digital media, and sound media so that students can express themselves as critics, as artists, and as citizens in their communities. Students learn to analyze texts through multiple perspectives, including, among others, the artists that created them, the institutions that produced them, the audiences that consumed them, the technologies that transmitted them, and the historical contexts that shaped them. The mission of Visual and Sound Media is to create inspired, ethically minded students who passionately engage our mediated world through critical and creative thinking.

The new interdisciplinary Sports Media Program combines courses from Visual and Sound Media, Journalism, and the Stillman School of Business with experiential learning opportunities at The Pirate Sports Network, WSOU, and The Setonian. The minor, which will launch Fall 2018, emphasizes the critical study of sports media, the practice of sports media, and the business of sports media.
