The Director of Instructional Design oversees academic technology projects, manages the TLT Center’s internal incentive programs, and provides leadership to the Seton Hall community in the strategic use of technology to accomplish goals related to the University’s mission. This position is also collaborates closely with the academic leadership of the University to address curriculum needs and implement appropriate technological solutions, including the development of online and hybrid programs. The Director also manages the Instructional Design team members who are responsible for the support and development of these academic technology projects as well as the Computer Training staff who provides instruction to the community on the use of University supported software.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiatives Management: responsible for the management and planning of the TLT Center’s internal incentive programs for utilizing technology in teaching and learning; the Curriculum Development Initiative (CDI); the Faculty Innovation Grants (FIG) and similar programs. The Director will work with the academic leadership on the SO Campus to shape these programs to meet the needs of the academic enterprise and support the strategic plan of the University.
- Management of Staff: Manage the Instructional Design and Computer Training team to ensure that individuals are successfully meeting tasks and responsibilities associated with the development of projects (e.g. online/hybrid courses, multimedia content, simulations) as well as other associated tasks assigned to them (faculty support, creation of workshops, outreach), and provide coaching and professional development opportunities as needed.
- Online Education: Support the planning, development and implementation of Online Education initiatives. This includes collaborating with academic leadership to identify opportunities for online and hybrid program development, management of the online course development process including measures of quality assurance, and creation of workshops to support faculty readiness to teach online.
- Project Management: Provide project management support including assisting in the writing of project charter documents, establishing goals and objectives, creating milestones and evaluation of project progress.
- Technology Professional Development and Training: Oversee the creation of faculty professional development programming to ensure that faculty can effectively utilize University supported tools and software in their courses.
- Support and Identification of Academic Software/Tools: Support University’s learning management system as well as other software available to the campus community. Review the usage of existing software that is purchased by the University and make recommendations for product renewals. Research instructional technology trends and new tools, act as a catalyst to disseminate this information to the faculty of Seton Hall. Support the integration of new technologies to support the curriculum.
- Master's Degree required, 5 - 8 years of instructional design experience at a college or university.
