Seton Hall University Libraries invites applications for three (3) full-time permanent Interprofessional Health Sciences (IHS) Library faculty positions. We seek experience working in undergraduate or graduate, medical education, and in clinical or hospital settings, to collaborate in launching a state-of-the art Library & Information Commons for its Interprofessional Health Sciences building in Clifton/Nutley, NJ, housing the new School of Medicine – New Jersey’s new (and only private) medical school, the College of Nursing, and the School of Health and Medical Sciences. Applicants' qualifications will be considered for all three positions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The University Libraries seek innovative, collaborative, user-focused applicants for three (3) new Health Sciences Library faculty positions. Following the “loose liaison” model, we seek: 1) a primary liaison for the new School of Medicine; 2) a primary liaison for the College of Nursing; 3) a primary liaison for the School of Health and Medical Sciences. All report to the Associate Dean and Founding Director, IHS Library & Information Commons. The “loose liaison” model envisions strong service cooperation and cross-fertilization between liaison areas and other functions, deepening support and expertise across the IHS and in the department.
  • The applicants for this position should be experienced Health Sciences librarians, having worked in undergraduate or graduate, Health Sciences education, and/or having experience in clinical or hospital librarianship. Successful applicants should have demonstrated interest in using the latest technologies to aid in the launch of a new Health Sciences library. Successful applicants will demonstrate an exceptional record of service and be skilled in delivering dynamic digital collections seamlessly and reliably to the IHS community.
  • Successful candidates will work closely with their schools and with the entire IHS community to develop curriculum-integrated instructional sessions, provide research support and consultations, collaborate with teaching faculty on assignment and course content, and maintain effective collections in the medical and Health Sciences disciplines in order to meet the teaching and research needs of faculty, residents, fellows and students. The incumbents will be expected to contribute significantly to the planning, development, provision, and assessment of a cohesive program of library services, collections, and strategic information literacy initiatives. This will include supporting biomedical and health informatics, data services, information literacy & evidence-based Health Sciences practices.
  • The successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to work in a complex, changing environment with positive, flexible, and innovative approaches, and will have a proven capacity to work effectively and collegially on teams at all levels, as well as with faculty, residents, fellows and students. These are permanent, full-time Library faculty positions requiring annual reviews. Applicants' qualifications will be considered for all three positions.

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information studies
  • Knowledge of Health Sciences library resources and services in one or more of the three (3) IHS units.
  • Strong health sciences database searching skills
  • A strong understanding of information literacy & evidence-based health sciences principles and practice
  • Skilled with information technologies and their application to research and teaching
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload assignments

Desired Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in the health or life sciences
  • Experience working within an undergraduate or graduate, medical education environment, or in clinical or hospital settings
  • Teaching experience, including the design of course materials and delivery of presentations
  • Knowledge of trends in biomedical informatics, data services, and scholarly communication
  • Experience in library outreach services
