The HVAC Mechanic will perform repairs, maintenance, and installation of heating systems, cooling systems, ventilation systems, domestic hot water units, boilers, pumping equipment, cooling towers, water valves, steam valves, controls, kitchen equipment, and related equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises members of the HVAC team, which will be made up of outsourced workers. Organizes the work orders for completion and assigns the tasks to the refrigeration mechanics. Inspects both completed work and work in progress. Prepares estimates and bills of materials for tasks. Orders material for the tasks.
  • Maintains, repairs, and installs all types and sizes of mechanical equipment, including boilers, heat exchangers, air conditioners, chillers, ice machines, freezers, cooling towers, kitchen equipment, water heaters, air handlers, distribution boxes, and ductwork.
  • Monitors and installs an energy management system for the entire building.
  • Evaluates all work requests, assigns work to mechanic workers, inspects that completed work conforms to department policies and adheres to the safety and health procedures.
  • Retrieves lost articles on the roof or in the elevator shafts, sink drains, and commodes. Sweeps, vacuums, and cleans up work areas after completion of tasks. Maintains common areas of the buildings and grounds in a clean and working order.
  • Recognizes danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them.

Required Qualifications:

  • GED or High School Diploma is required.
  • A minimum of 3 -5 years in maintenance or installation of commercial HVAC systems is required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs as well as being able to climb and work off ladders, scaffolds and lifts.
  • Must be an independent worker as well as a team player.
  • Must be available to work overtime, holidays and off shift hours. As well as being available to provide off hours on call coverage.
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
  • Performs all work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications:

The preferred certifications for the HVAC position are:

  • Universal license to handle refrigerant
  • Universal Refrigeration license

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Possess a valid state driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs as well as being able to climb and work off ladders, scaffolds and lifts.
