The Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving head coach is responsible for the organization, development, administration and coordination of a competitive NCAA Division I women's and men's swimming and diving program.  The head coach must have the ability to recruit and retain athletically and academically qualified student-athletes. The head coach will oversee all teaching and coaching, including planning team practices and conducting individual and team workouts.  Additionally, the head coach will be responsible for the hiring and supervision of assistant coaches, scheduling and travel planning, roster management, and equipment purchasing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coaching Responsibilities:

  • Organize, direct, and administer all aspects of the program
  • Develop the men's and women's swimming & diving programs to be competitive in the BIG EAST Conference and on a national level
  • Create a safe, positive environment for student-athletes to learn and be challenged
  • Emphasize and enforce the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct
  • Practice good sportsmanship and the highest standards of professional conduct

Recruiting Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and retain athletically and academically qualified student-athletes
  • Commit to each student-athlete's academic achievement
  • Adhere to NCAA, BIG EAST, University, and Athletic department policies and procedures
  • Pass the annual NCAA Coaches Certification Test
  • Maintain required documentation for NCAA rules compliance
  • Determine the distribution of athletically related financial aid    

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate a competitive NCAA Division I schedule
  • Organize and direct team practices
  • Support the mission and goals of the University and Department of Athletics
  • Maintain budget control and fiscal responsibility
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for business expenditures and NCAA rules compliance
  • Work closely with sport administrator and travel coordinator to secure travel arrangements
  • Work closely with equipment manager to procure equipment needs
  • Attend required rules compliance reviews
  • Maintain on-campus office hours

Aquatics Director:

  • Coordinate certified lifeguard staffing during pool operating hours
  • Certify, interview, screen and test potential SHU lifeguards
  • Maintain daily log of pool readings and recordings
  • Coordinate outside vendor services for maintenance of daily pool operations (i.e.) Chlorine delivery, CO2 Delivery
  • Identify potential aquatic hazards and needs

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-3 years experience as an NCAA Division I head coach or assistant women's and men's swimming and diving coach.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Candidate must possess a Certified Pool Operator's License; must also be fully certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Prefer that the candidate has passed the most current NCAA Coaches Certification Test, however, it can be administered (and must be passed) once on campus.
