Sports Polling Student Worker --- Academic Year 2017-2018

Apply now Job no: 492763
Full time/Part time: Part-time
Location: South Orange
Categories: Student Employment

Students will participate in the Seton Hall Sports Poll, which contacts adults nationwide by telephone from a call center in Jubilee Hall Room 545 to conduct interviews about moral/ethical issues in the world of sports. Students will be seated at a call center workstation and will use a headset and a computer to conduct the interview by following a script and entering responses into the program which determines the next question to be asked. Good speaking skills and ability to follow instructions are important for this role. There are 18 work stations in the call center, and each work station has an application installed which manages the script of the polling interviewer, logs the responses to a database for tabulation, and establishes the telephone connection between the interviewer's workstation and the person being interviewed. The system recognizes when a polling agent has completed a call and begins auto-dialing from a list of thousands of random phone numbers in a particular time zone. Polls are conducted over 3 evenings on 3 days per month throughout the school year, and you can select the shifts that fit your schedule. You may also donate the money you earn to your student club or organization as part of a fund raising activity. Working at the sports poll is a good way for a student to get practice at talking to people on the phone (which is important since many entry level sports jobs are sales positions that require using the phone, and verbal communication is an important skill that many students need to practice since much of their regular communication occurs via text message or other written formats).

Students will be seated at a call center workstation and will use a headset and a computer to conduct the interview by following a script and entering responses into the program which determines the next question to be asked. Good speaking skills and ability to follow instructions are important for this role.

3 hours per poll, 3 days per month during academic year.
